Blackberry Curve 9380
0After years of producing devices that have been renowned for their excellent Qwerty keypads RIM have finally released a full touchscreen device as part of their Curve range of models. The Blackberry Curve 9380 is the perfect phone for people who want the excellent messaging features that are traditionally associated with these devices but with a larger screen perfect for web browsing.
Earlier in the year we saw some new models released in the Blackberry Bold range that saw a small capacitive touchscreen added above the traditional Qwerty keypad. With the new Curve 9360 Blackberry have gone a step further and totally eliminated the keypad and fitted a high quality 3.2 inch display capable of displaying a respectable resolution of 360 x 480 pixels. This screen shows a total of 188 pixels per inch which is much lower than many premium models but we must not forget that this is a budget smartphone and this rating is superior to many models offered at a comparable price. There are four capacitive keys located beneath the screen as well as the famous optical trackpad for times when you need some very precise navigation. In terms of design the model measures 109 x 60 x 11.2 mm which makes it a compact phone that certainly should not feel to obtrusive when placed in a pocket. At 98 grammes in weight the model is also one of the most lightweight phones that you are likely to encounter weighing nearly 40 grammes lighter than the iPhone 4S. Despite its incredibly light weight the phone manages to feel like a premium device and boasts the excellent build quality we have come to associate with Blackberry models. (more…)
Blackberry Torch 9860 and 9810
0In August of 2010, RIM introduced a handset that was unique compared to conventional BB smartphone. This was that 9800. The phone sports a 3.2 inch touch screen, a track pad, and a slide out physical QWERTY keyboard. This handset offered not one but three input options that quickly caught the attention Blackberry’s enthusiast. This 2011, the Canadian phone manufacturer has released 2 more versions of this popular model in the UK. These are the Blackberry Torch 9860 and the 9810.
Let’s start with the 9810. If you compare both the predecessor and the successor, you will notice only a few minor changes. You might not see any changes to the design at all. Both phones sport the same display, track pad, and slide out QWERTY keyboard. Their dimensions are identical as well. The huge difference can be found under the hood. The original version packs a modest 624 MHz single-core processor under the hood. Its predecessor rocks a 1.2 GHz CPU. This will push performance levels to whole new heights. With twice as much clock speed, you are sure to enjoy more processing power. This is when you will notice the difference. (more…)
BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900
0The BlackBerry Bold Touch is the CDMA version of the CDMA BlackBerry Bold Touch 9930. The difference consist in the $299.99 price on contract and the support for T-Mobile’s HSPA + network.
The BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is one of the best looking smartphones built by Blackberry. It’s a lot more sleek, attractive and better built than most other BlackBerry devices. It measures 115 x 66 x 10.5 mm and weighs 130 grams. The front of the device holds a 2.8″ TFT touchscreen display with VGA resolution(640*480) and 28ppi. Under the display you can find the great full QWERTY keyboard that is one of the best keyboards yet. It has a spacious layout, keys are big enough and the responsiveness is simply great and the lack of an on-screen keyboard(despite having a touchscreen) means you will end up using it all the time..
On the left side we see the 3.5 mm jack and microUSB port while the right side holds the volume rocker and dedicated camera key. The top only holds the power key. On the back we find the 5MPx with LED flash and the battery cover. Remove it and you will find the 1230 mAh battery( that gives the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 up to 307 hours of stand-by and over 6 hours of talk time), SIM card slot and microSD card slot. (more…)
HTC Chacha VS Blackberry 9900 Bold Touch
0Mobile phones that incorporate a full Qwerty keypad were once the handset of choice for your typical business person wanting to compose and edit e mails whilst on the move. Recently the phones have been adopted by a younger generation who use instant messaging services such as MSN and Blackberry Messenger. We take a look at the new Blackberry 9900 Bold Touch, the new newest release from the brand that made the full keypad famous and compare it to the HTC Chacha, one of the newest phones sporting the Qwerty design.
Taking a look at both handsets for the first time it is the Blackberry device that really grabs your attention. In terms of design the 9900 Bold Touch is the better looking phone. It looks very much like previous Blackberrys with a small display occupying the top half of the chassis and the full keypad dominating the bottom section. The individual keys are a squared shape which keeps the keypad looking very neat and compact. This layout is in contrast to the more rounded key design on the Chacha which looks less premium and certainly occupies more space. The Blackberry is also a very flat design whereas the HTC positions the screen at a slight angle to the keypad. We prefer the shape of the Blackberry not only for its looks but also from a practical point of view as the phone is likely to fit more comfortably into a small pocket or bag. (more…)
