Motorola Defy

Motorola has recently announced the launch of Motorola Defy+, an upgraded version of the handset bearing the same name. After Google bought Motorola, techies and non-techies alike have been anticipating the changes the takeover will cause on the multinational telecommunications company. With Motorola Defy+, other versions of rugged Android phones in the market will surely have a tough time keeping up.

Similarities with the original Motorola Defy

At one glance, smart phone users will agree that the appearance is pretty much the same as the previous Defy phones. It has the same 3.7 multi touch enabled display and Gorilla glass screen. The Defy+ boast the same 854 x 480 resolution that is apt for rich multimedia viewing. Both models stay true to their “lifeprooof” tagline which makes them suitable for handling rough usage since they are water-resistant, dust proof, and scratch-resistant. Users of these smart phones will notice that it is heavier at 118 g and dimension of 107 x 59 x 13.4 mm compared to other rugged phones like Samsung Galaxy and Sony Experia Active which weighs at 116 g and 110 g respectively. The new Defy+ also stays true to the 5 MP digital camera of the previous model as well as the auto focus and digital zoom features.

When it comes to the software, the Motorola Blur is still used in the Defy+ upgrade. This feature allows the user to simplify the task for social network fanatics by combining widgets and social networking sites in your main screen. Users can choose to use the push-based feature of Motoblur to import their contacts from these networking sites and make them available to their Defy+ phones.

The messaging options for both models include clients like Yahoo Mail, Corporate Sync, POP3/IMAP, and Google mail. Instant messaging is made easier with Google Talk, a pre-installed service that comes with these two phones.

Key Differences

The outside casing of Motorola Defy+ is slightly different in the sense that instead of the usual black exterior, it has a dull grayish cover and the white version has some hints of white framing on the sides.

The user interface received some upgrades starting with the Android OS. While Defy runs on Android 2.1 version, Defy+ is faster with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This operating system is more stable and reliable than the earlier version. It also has a 1 GHz processor compared to the standard 800 MHz of Defy models, giving a faster and more efficient transfer rate of contents from the internet.

Users viewing the contact page will see a lighter background that makes reading easier. The homepage can be personalized so that the menu can include Kindle, Facebook, and the camera. Applications that are often used are just a touch away since it can be easily organized in application trays. Another addition to previously available apps is Google Maps navigation and Google maps. Motorola Atrix is one of the widgets to look out for in this new model.

Another thing that users can anticipate in the Defy+ model is the increased battery life. The talk time with previous Defy phones is 6.66 hours compared with the upgraded version which can last for as long as 7.10 hours. Same thing is true for battery capacity from 1540 mAh to 1700 mAh.

Motorola Defy+ in general is a pretty impressive upgrade from the original Defy version. With all the features that these smart phones promise, buyers will not be disappointed when they give this latest model a try.
