Spyware can collect small pieces of user’s information without their knowledge. The presence of spyware is usually hidden from the user so it could be difficult to detect. Spyware is usually installed on the user’s personal computer. While the term spyware suggests software that secretly monitors the user’s computing, the functions of spyware extend well beyond simple monitoring. Spyware is known to change computer settings, resulting in slow connection speeds, different home pages, and/or loss of Internet connection or functionality of other programs.

Spyware can be more dangerous when it has the ability to scan and collect sensitive information such as ID, credit card number, password, etc. For many years many internet users has become the victim of cyber crime. And some of this crime was initially caused by spyware.

In response to emergence of spyware, there is anti-spyware software. Anti spyware programs can combat spyware in two different ways:
